Holiday Suppers is inspired by Camden Point, MO, our late Boston Terrier, Molly and is an extension of Thursday Night Suppers. Our idea is to host two holiday dinners, one on Thanksgiving and one on Christmas Day, for seniors who are alone for the holidays.
As mentioned earlier, the idea was inspired by the community of Camden Point, Missouri. Camden Point is a rural community where neighbors look after one another and during the holidays, citizens take meals to seniors who otherwise wouldn't have a dinner for Thanksgiving or Christmas. While Camden Point is the inspiration for these dinners, Molly put the idea into motion. Mike and I had talked about hosting a holiday dinner for seniors for years, but never did. After Molly died we were looking for a way to heal our broken hearts and fill our home with laughter and excitment again and we came up with Thursday Night Suppers, a monthly dinner created in Molly's memory to bring people together over a home-cooked meal. So we've decided to build on Thursday Night Suppers and create Holiday Suppers.
The dinners are free to anyone who is 60 or older, in the Kansas City Metro area and alone for the holidays. Space is limited, so reservations are required. The dinners will be held in our home (Overland Park, KS) from Noon to 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, November 26th and on Christmas Day, December 25th. To make a reservation please send an e-mail to holidaysuppers@yahoo.com or call Mike and Tricia at 913-484-1952. We live in a two-story apartment building on the second floor, so guests will need to be able to walk up one flight of stairs. For those seniors who don't drive, Mike and I will try to arrange for transportation.
Holiday Suppers is our way of reaching out to local seniors who are alone for the holidays. Guests will enjoy a buffet-style tradional holiday meal in a cheerful atmosphere. Mike and I want to keep the dinners casual and as close to a "family" gathering as possilbe. We'll have seating at our small dining room table and the rest of the seating will be in big comfy chairs, couches and extra chairs.
